crust cruising
Sawtooth City, IDÂ This morning i got up and went skate skiing with my brother Al. It was 20 degrees which seems pretty cold for April, but we’ve been seeing some pretty cold temperatures this month. I’ve been hearing a lot about the spring phenomenon of crust cruising from the locals. Seems that when spring gets going it warms up the snow during the day and then the cold night freezes it all up so if you get right up in the morning you can put on your skis and skate just about anywhere you want to go. Al and i went out by the Alturas lake trailhead and sure enough, we could skate just about anywhere we wanted to go. It was a bright sunny and magical time. We skated across the flats, into the trees, down by the river and up, around and over some hills. Great way to start the day. I might have to get up and do it again tomorrow.
